My Christmas Pics and Memories

One of the things I like most about Christmas is being with family. It's taken me awhile to learn the true meaning of Christmas, and I am so thankful to God that He is the true meaning of Christmas. Having said that, I will say that being with my family and just enjoying each other's company is one of my favorite things. Even when they do things like this:

My wonderful, gorgeous husband hates to have his picture taken. But sometimes, sometimes I'm able to get him to actually let me take one. We have very few of us together, as it's usually one of us that is taking the picture. So yesterday, for Christmas, he got me a new digital camera that actually takes pictures that aren't grainy, no matter the lighting, and I asked him to sit still long enough for me to take the picture. This is what I got.

But then, I pulled my trump card. Every year, I ask for the same thing: to get family pictures of us taken and/or to get pictures of the two of us taken. It has not happened yet. So I told him, you know I never got to get our picture professionally taken (we didn't have a professional photographer at our wedding, even) so he let one of our nephews take a better picture:

This will be one of my favorites, until I can get him to sit still for one again. And not be silly and stick his tongue out at me. :)

I also got some wonderful pictures of my children yesterday:
This is my beautiful baby girl, Syanne, wrapped up all snuggly in the blanket I made for her. Isn't she gorgeous? Yes, I'm partial, but you have to admit, she's one good looking baby!

This is my 5 year old "fashion girl", Aniston, who unlike her father, loves to pose for the camera, and of course, with these good looks, who can blame her really???!!!
She is standing on her new Trikke that she got for Christmas. If you've never heard of this, you should check it out! My husband and son spent 3 hours playing on theirs yesterday, and it was quite a workout (my hubby was seriously sore, today.)

This one would be of my beautiful teenage daughter, Mercedes,- of the confused style sort- who actually thinks that
this hat looks cool. Don't worry, she knows I think it looks silly. She doesn't really care- who am I anyway, but her thrity something mom. What do I know about fashion, right?! But she is gorgeous anyway, even with the hat, and despite the fact that she wants to add bright red or blue tips to her hair! I guess it's a teen thing- I think I remember what that was like. :)

These pics are of my silly, goofy, gorgeous son, Michael, doing what he does best:
Making others laugh. Our lives would not be the same without my little clown. Even something as mundane and boring as folding laundry after a hard day of play, becomes fun and full of laughter with him around.

And last but certainly not least, is the cat: Molly. I couldn't, in good conscience, post pictures of our family without her. Isn't she cute? Don't let her fool you though, she can be a stinker too, especially when she's trying to play. Can you say, CHOMP?!

  1. The hat looks silly and she has no fashion sense. Mum knows best!

    Yeah, right! ;-)

  2. DM, I love sharing pics of my family! Thanks for taking a gander at my family! Blessings to you!

Robert, what do you mean, "yeah, right"???!!! I HAVE fashion sense. I just don't like the way the hat looks on her. I'm entitled to my opinion. It's not like I forbade her to wear it or anything. :) Anyway, I think it might be growing on me. She's so beautiful, that she makes anything she wears look good. Blessings to you!

  3. "Yeah right" was supposed to a teenager quote. Of course Mum knows best. My wife and 13 year old daughter battle frequently on the fashion front. Fortunately they have both given up on me as a lost cause! :)

  4. Shalene,

Love the pics!!! You have a beautiful family!! Your kitty is beautiful too - she looks like my baby Maxie. I'm glad you all had a wonderful Christmas - you all look like you were having fun. :)

Regarding that hat - my dad used to have a houndstooth gangster hat in the 70's. Does she (isn't her name Mercedes?) know that her hat is modeled after a guy's 70's, mobster type of hat? hahahahaha

That pattern makes me dizzy! I can't look at it. :) But she pulls it off. :)

  5. Robert, I knew that. I was just teasing. :) Thanks for stopping back by. Blessings to you!

Carol, Thanks for stopping by. Yes, her name is Mercedes. No, she doesn't know it's patterned after a man's gangster hat. I don't think she would care. It's not so much the pattern that I don't like, as the fact that I just don't think it fits her facial structure. Anyway, like I said, who am I but her thrity something mom, right?! Blessings to you!

  6. Lovely pics, Shalene! Thank you for sharing. I can just feel the joy oozing off the screen. :)

I shall reserve comment on the hat, seeing that everyone's had a go at it already. Personally, a Stetson classic is the best there is. ;)

    God bless, and Shabbat Shalom!

  7. Shalene -

Your family is just absolutely beautiful - even down to the kitty : )

So glad you got hubby to pose for one too - that was sweet! Mine tends to be a goof-ball when it comes to photos too, so I sympathize : )

So glad I got to see such lovely photos of your gorgeous kiddos and I hope you have a wonderful start to the new year!

  10. As a Christian and a parent I would really love it if you read the Editorial just posted for 3rd January. I would love to hear your input.

  11. Thanks for your comment. I pretty much agree with you completely. I'm glad to hear you have talked to your eldest.

I believe it is the job of the parent to inform the child of their belief about sexual health but to also show them that there are other beliefs as well. Lying to your child about health is just wrong.

Your daughter being abstinence is great but it is important that she knows that if she does decide to break her pledge of abstinence it is important that she does use protection.

Although I do not agree with your religious preference I am glad to know that your children are not being deprived of their necessary sexual education.

    Thanks again for your comment.
