Always the Same

I want to share something HUGE with you today! I love history and I love the bible. When you put the two together, well I'm just tickled by it all. What I'm going to share today is something I've been learning about. Now, I've always been told, and I believe it too, that the bible supports itself throughout the Old and New Testaments. That what is said in one portion is supported in another. That's because God does not lie. He knows our yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows.

My husband called it Moore in the morning and Moore in the evening, because I'm doing a Beth Moore study in the mornings, and listening to David Moore in the evenings. (Yes, I am aware he's had some issues with his personal life that affected his ministry; but what I'm listening to came from before those issues, and it doesn't make them any less true.)

While doing these studies, I'm learning a lot about the Old Testament, and the prophecies related to the nation of Israel. For the most part, the Beth Moore study is about the tabernacle in the wilderness, and how that points to Jesus as our savior, and us as a royal priesthood. However, the David Moore tapes (yes, they are actually "tapes") explain about biblical prophecy and how it is accurate throughout. Let me share some of it with you.

I've learned that there are 1817 individual predictions in the bible. 737 separate subjects, in 8352 verses. That means that 27% of the 31,124 verses in the bible are prophetic. That's quite a bit, all things considered. I'm also learning about 3 of the numerous prophecies concerning the nation of Israel. I'll share the basics of them with you.

Now, I had to do some math, to verify this, so bear with me, while I share this. If I had to do the math, you have to read it. (I HATE math!) The bible predicts Israel's return from Egypt as being 430 years. Then they were in Babylonian captivity for 70 years. In Isaiah, we learn of the name of the king that would allow the Israelites to leave. Because most of the Isrealites didn't want to leave, we have learned in Leviticus 26:18 that God said He would punish them 7 times over. This is the prophecy of God regarding Israel's return as a nation in the 20th century.

Now for the math.
536BC the Israelites punishment was to be seven times the punishment they had already recieved. This is described in Ezekiel 4:3-6. So, if their punishment was already 430 years minus the 70 they had already served in Babylon, you get 360 years. Multiply that by 7, and you get 2520 years. If you take 536BC and add to that 2520 years you would get 1984. However, these predictions are based on the biblical year of 360 days. So...in 2520 years we have about 12,600 days, or 35 years, we must subtract from this date. Thus we have 1949. Then you take the fact that there is no year 0, and you get May 15, 1948!!! This is the date that Israel became a nation again. Now, I know my math was not exact enough to get that date, but it would take a very long time to tell you where all that came from, and exactly how I verified this. Do you find that as amazing as I do??? Amazing enough even to do the math? :)

I stand amazed each day, that though I believe the Bible to be the final authoritative Word of God, and that I believe God to be the God of yesterday, today and tomorrow, that He has deemed it appropriate to prove this to us time and time again. Thank You, Lord. Thanks for sticking with me, while I shared that with you. It was too big for me to keep to myself. Blessing to you.

What's Up With All Those "Begats"?

I found this over at Isaiah's site, and finally I see the reason behind the "begats." If you were like me, and used to skim over them, because you were certain that there was no real purpose in them, except to tell us some geneology that no one really cared about; then do watch this video. I stand amazed and more than a little bit contrite. Blessings to you! (Don't forget to pause the music player at the end of the posts, so you can hear without a lot of garbled mess.)
